Workshop 1: Appreciation or Mis-Appropriation? Exploring the Use of Scripture and Practice
How do you treat what is sacred in traditions outside your own? What religious practices and scripture belong to you as an individual, or as a gathered congregation? Can you integrate scripture and practices – rituals, celebrations, spiritual practices — from other traditions?
How do you honor and pay tribute to traditions you have learned from without veering over the line into misuse and disrespect? These questions can shape our worship, religious education, and group life. The workshop leads individuals and the group to consider these questions and find answers for their particular congregation.
Workshop 2: Reclaiming Scripture in UU Congregations
A century ago, both Unitarian and Universalist congregations regularly drew on scripture. Yes, it was from a particular tradition (Christian). Can we find a use for scripture today – from a variety of traditions? How can we make use of knowledge and understandings from the past – and even from other cultures and traditions – that gives insights into our current world?

I’m happy to discuss variations based on your congregation’s needs (time, topic, adding a sermon, etc.).
